Police surrounding Greyhound bus near IL-WI state line

Update: Suspect in custody after possible hostage situation on Greyhound bus

A spokesman for the Racine County Sheriff's Office did not immediately return a call Saturday morning.

The man allegedly made threats to kill people as the bus was traveling from Milwaukee to Chicago, according to the Racine County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect was saying "he was gonna kill us, that he was going to put a bullet in our head", passenger Patrick Todd told CBS 2 in Chicago after the almost 40 passengers arrived at Union Station on another vehicle.

The suspect - described by Illinois State Police as "disorderly and possibly armed" - was arrested and detained after the bus came to a stop south of the Wisconsin state line near Wadsworth, in Lake County, Illinois, authorities said. The bus crossed into IL and was stopped near I-94 at Rt. 173.

The Illinois State Police said they are investigating whether the man was carrying a gun. But he too was confused about why it took so long for the driver to stop. "He thought it was a training exercise", Schmaling said. "The first thought in my mind was that they were escorting us, but then it's like okay maybe they're not because I see some of them pulling over and I couldn't see what they were doing".
