The British government blamed the threat of mass protests for the United States (US) President Donald Trump's decision on Friday to cancel a visit to London to open the new US embassy, and warned that criticism of the White House risked harming US-UK relations.
Trump asserted late Thursday on Twitter that he "cancelled" his trip to the United Kingdom next month because he didn't like the deal under which the embassy was moved.
Yet on Friday the USA embassy in London joined British officials in rebutting his claims.
The US embassy in London has released a statement correcting President Donald Trump on the price tag of its relocation after he said it claimed it was a "bad deal".
A Trump visit has been on the cards since British Prime Minister Theresa May visited the United States a few days after Trump's inauguration previous year. USA officials surveyed more than 50 sites before zeroing in on the site in Vauxhall, which is south of the river Thames, for the new embassy.
President Donald Trump was expected to visit London in February - and now that his trip has been put on hold, many are at odds as to why.
Mr Johnson told MPs: "I think Her Majesty the Queen is well capable to of taking this American president - or indeed any American president - in her stride, as she has done over six remarkable decades". The official, who asked for anonymity to discuss a sensitive diplomatic matter, said Trump's decision reflected his belief that there was nothing to gain by going to Britain now.

A group called "Stop Trump" promised the "biggest demonstration in British history" should Trump visit.
Nigel Farage, the former leader of the Brexit supporting UKIP party, who claims to be a friend of Mr Trump, said the demonstrations were a possible factor in the cancellation.
The State Department, however, announced plans for relocating the London embassy in 2008, while George W. Bush was still president, because of concerns about security following the September 11 terror attacks. Values for the best offices in the West End, which includes Mayfair, have doubled since then.
The Grosvenor Square building has been sold to the Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Co, which plans to turn it into a luxury hotel, The Guardian reported.
According to new reports the US President will be snubbed from the royal wedding guest-list.
Trump's critics believed he had pulled out of the trip over fears of mass protests over his impending state visit to the country, which is set to go ahead though no date has been confirmed by Downing Street.
"The US is one of our oldest and most valued allies, and our strong partnership will endure", May's spokesman Blain said.
