UPDATE: President Trump says interview with Mueller 'unlikely'
Trump attacked Feinstein (D-Calif.) for releasing a transcript of private testimony from Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson on Tuesday - testimony from last summer that Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have declined to release.
As she runs for her fifth full term, Feinstein is facing a challenge from the left as some liberals question whether the long-serving senator is too moderate for California.
Trump's statement follows lawsuits filed by his personal lawyer against BuzzFeed over the publication of the dossier and against Fusion GPS, the intelligence firm behind the infamous document.
Feinstein on Tuesday released the full transcript of the committee's interview with Glenn Simpson, the co-founder of the opposition research firm that produced the explosive dossier detailing alleged ties between Trump and Russian Federation.
The California Democrat said she made the transcript public because she felt the American people had the right to know what the firm's leaders said about a dossier of Russia-related information about Trump.
Trump is again reiterating that there was "no collusion" between his 2016 presidential campaign and Russian Federation.
Fusion GPS hired former British spy Christopher Steele to produce the report, of which the main claims have been unverified.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday took aim at "sneaky" Sen. "But, as I would with any credible evidence of a crime unearthed in the course of our investigations, I feel obliged to pass that information along to the Justice Department for appropriate review", Grassley said in a statement.
Sen. Charles E. Grassley, R-Iowa, the committee chairman, criticized Feinstein's decision to release the transcript, saying she did not consult him first. "Her action undermines the integrity of the committee's oversight work and jeopardizes its ability to secure candid voluntary testimony", such as from Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and top adviser.
The criminal referral urged the DOJ to examine whether Steele made false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation "about the distribution of claims" contained in the dossier. Chuck Grassley. She is the top Democrat on the panel. Two months later, at the FBI's request, Steele gave a more in-depth briefing to bureau officials at a meeting in Rome.
The special counsel's team of investigators has expressed interest in speaking with Trump, but no details have been worked out.
