Fired Google engineer James Damore sues company

Google Memo Author James Damore Sues Company For Discrimination Against White Males

James Damore, the onetime Google employee who was sacked after he wrote a memo criticizing the firm for pushing diversity, has filed a class action lawsuit against the tech giant.

James Damore's class action lawsuit, filed January 8 with the Santa Clara Superior Court in California, alleges that employees who fit that description were "singled out, mistreated, and systematically punished and terminated from Google".

They say they were "ostracized, belittled, and punished. for the added sin of their birth circumstances of being Caucasians and/or males".

"(Google applies) illegal hiring quotas to fill its desired percentages of women and favored minority candidates, and openly shames managers of business units who fail to meet their quotas-in the process, openly denigrating male and Caucasian employees as less favored than others."

Google fired Damore in August after the engineer circulated his memo, addressing what he deemed to be an "ideological echo chamber" at the company.

According to the complaint, this was an open display of "disregard for the law" and discrimination against Caucasians that was "not only allowed at Google, but supported and actively encouraged".

Former Google engineer, James Damore, is suing Google for discrimination. Last month Google scored a win in the lawsuit when a California state judge dismissed class action claims.

Police arrests four Kashmiri cricketers for respecting Pakistani national anthem
SSP Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad told The Economic Times "We have registered the case and investigation is going on". Police had arrested some of the boys then but they were let off after assurances from the parents.

The lawsuit also claims Google endorsed "blacklists" to keep track of politically conservative employees and prevented right-wing figures like Alex Jones from visiting the company headquarters.

Damore's lawsuit asserts that his former company systematically discriminates against conservative white males.

Debate surrounding discrimination in the male-dominated tech world has raged for months, with women at numerous major Silicon Valley companies coming forward with stories of bias and sexual harassment.

The lawsuit is seeking compensation against Google and an injunction against the company for its alleged discrimination.

Google said it looks forward to defending itself against Damore's accusations in court.

Damore was sacked for "perpetuating gender stereotypes". "To suggest a group of our colleagues have traits that make them less biologically suited to that work is offensive and not OK", wrote CEO Sundar Pichai in an internal memo announcing Damore's departure.

The company has never given any indication that it fired Damore for his political views. The four women claimed Google underpaid them compared with their male counterparts. It's not a totally surprising filing given Damore filed a federal labor complaint past year and began working with Dhillon during August 2017 on "fact gathering" - looking for other white dudes who felt wronged by Google - for what would eventually become today's complaint. The class action suit is also demanding for a jury trial.
