Change in Titletown: Ted Thompson Transitioning from Packers GM into Senior Advisor Role
Wolf will join a Cleveland personnel department headed by John Dorsey, who spent 21 years in the Green Bay front office - and one in Seattle - prior to landing his first GM job with the Kansas City Chiefs. "His time under the direction of former Packers general managers Ron Wolf and Ted Thompson will undoubtedly serve him well as we work toward our next Super Bowl championship..."
Gutekunst offered Wolf a spot in his department to remain with the Packers as his "right-hand man". Dorsey and friends will be tasked with correcting that positional weakness right away.
Wolf interviewed for Green Bay's opening at general manager this offseason, but Brian Gutekunst was picked over Wolf.
Eliot Wolf started working as a scout with the Packers in 2004 and was promoted five times, most recently to director of football operations in 2016. Wolf will be assistant general manager with the Browns after 14 seasons with the Packers, and Highsmith has been named vice president of player personnel after 19 years with the Packers. That connection is what enticed Eliot Wolf to join the Browns front office. He will serve as the Browns' VP of Football Operations, according to reports.
Chaotic start to British PM's new year reshuffle
Britain's Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has kept his portfolio despite a series of high-profile gaffes. Most senior ministers stayed in their posts on Monday, with some defying May's attempts to move them.
Gutekunst and the Packers announced the signing of first-year running back Joel Bouagnon to a futures deal. The Browns finished the regular season without a victory and are now 1-31 in the last two seasons under head coach Hue Jackson.
There's nothing official on the coaching front as the Browns continue to weigh their options and meet with candidates.
Packers fans may worry about Pettine's history with the Browns - two years and a 10-22 record, and his defenses there were not very good - but that's not unusual, after all, for the Browns.
