Chelsea Elizabeth Manning, the transgender former Army private convicted of disclosing classified information by turning over sensitive government files to WikiLeaks, has filed to run for U.S. Senate against Sen. Now it looks like she'll be running for Senate. With 21 convictions in total, she was sentenced to 35 years at a maximum security prison at Fort Leavenworth.

President Obama commuted her sentence, and Manning was released from military prison last year after serving seven years.

Manning could not immediately be reached for comment.

When Ms Manning was released last May, she told The Associated Press in an email she was eager to define her future, but made no mention of politics. Ben Cardin in the state's June primary. "On Tuesday, which was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, she stirred controversy when she tweeted ". the police", and then, "police kill hundreds of people every year with absolute impunity".

Current leader Donald Trump, however, has labelled her an "ungrateful traitor", arguing that she "should never have been released from prison".

Trump says an interview with Mueller is 'unlikely.' Guess again, Mr. President
The job now ahead of Mueller and his team is proving the Trump team colluded with Moscow to influence the election. Trump is also correct that the Federal Bureau of Investigation did not make an audio recording her interview.

Manning was arrested in 2010 after she gave Wikileaks nearly 75,000 documents related to the war efforts in the Middle East and information about Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

Manning, whose name was formerly Bradley Manning, was convicted of 20 counts, including six violations of the Espionage Act.

Her case remains politically divisive. The Constitution simply requires senators to be 30 years of age, citizens of the United States and residents of the state in which they are seeking office.

Her actions made Manning a hero to anti-war and anti-secrecy activists but U.S. establishment figures branded her a traitor. The only qualifications to run for U.S Senate in Maryland is to be at least 30-years-old, to have citizenship in the U.S for at least nine years, and live in the state at the time of the election.
