Senate Holds Confirmation Hearing For Alex Michael Azar II To Become Health and Human Services Secretary

Several senators including Claire McCaskill are calling on fellow Democratic Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota, Kirsten Gillibrand on Wednesday joined an avalanche of Democratic senators calling for him to step down.

A group of Senate Democratic women came out almost simultaneously on Wednesday to call for the resignation of Minnesota Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). Also, Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez said Franken should step down.

Reed says the accumulating accusations and acknowledgment that inappropriate behavior took place "cannot be countenanced".

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, told CNN that "it would be best for the Senate" if Franken "followed the advice of his Democratic colleagues", and Sen. It was time to call on him to step aside.

The senator is facing a Senate Ethics Committee investigation into previous claims by other women that he groped them.

Franken called the allegation "categorically not true". Al Franken to resign on Wednesday.

In this latest accusation, Politico says that two former colleagues of the woman independently corroborated her version of events, including Franken telling her he had the right to try to kiss her because he was "an entertainer".

Franken's office tweeted the following, without elaboration.
