UCF hires Josh Heupel to replace Scott Frost
06 December 2017, 01:14 | Todd Saunders
UCF hires Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel as head coach
Heupel is finishing his second season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Missouri, where he has guided a unit that is seventh in the country in total offense and 10th in scoring offense (39.3 points per game).
"Excited about having him [Shannon] as part of our staff", Heupel said.
Scott Frost, who won a title during his playing days with Nebraska, made a decision to return to the school as their new head coach. The Knights will play Auburn in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on January 1.
But when you do some digging about this hire, Danny White, who's the current AD for UCF, has a brother [Brian White] who works at Missouri as the Deputy Athletics Director so, that's where the connection comes from in terms of Heupel as a candidate.
Heupel's last game calling plays for the Sooners was inside the now-named Camping World Stadium, which is only 16 miles from the UCF campus. If Odom hires someone from outside the program to be his next offensive coordinator, that coach could bring along a player he was recruiting at his previous program.
UCF also announced that Heupel is hiring Shannon as his defensive coordinator, which is the same job he had with Florida this past season. The former Miami coach finished the season as Florida's interim coach.
Broadcom put forward 11 nominees for Qualcomm Board
In addition, some NXP shareholders want Qualcomm to increase its $110 per share offer, which is below NXP's current trading price. Nevertheless, Qualcomm's board unanimously rejected the offer on November 13, saying it "significantly undervalued" the company .
"Josh absolutely killed the interview", White said.
"When I was first contacted I poured over some guys who I wanted". It puts us in a great position moving ahead.
The 39-year-old Heupel is practically the same age Frost was (40, nearly 41) when he was hired at UCF, along with the obvious parallel of both being successful, national title-winning collegiate quarterbacks. "That's the style that they want".
Working with Heupel, Lock led the SEC with 3,695 yards and a conference-record 43 passing touchdowns this past season. The Tigers improved from four wins in 2016 to 7-5 and will face Texas in the Texas Bowl later this month.
Frost had inherited an 0-12 team and turned it into a 12-0 team in two years' time. The former Oklahoma All-American quarterback Josh Heupel will take over the reigns of the Knight football team.
With Heupel leading the way, Oklahoma won in 2000.
