New Tomb Raider game will be Lara Croft's defining adventure in 2018
With a new Tomb Raider film on the horizon, and the phenomenal reception that the previous two games were met with since the reboot, it's a fantastic time to be Team Lara Croft. We presume this will be Shadow of the Tomb Raider, though Square Enix has yet to confirm its official title. Couple that with the way the message seems to insist they want to "share" more with us and it's clear that they were dropping a hint at the name. Fortunately, that changed today when the dealer announced that a new Lara Croft adventure is on our way.
"Square-Enix is excited to share some big news with you next year", reads the statement on Twitter. At least we know that the game is coming and it sounds like it might come as soon as next summer or autumn, so we won't have to wait much longer.
Despite The Game Awards taking place tonight at 8:30 PM EST, some companies have made a decision to announce some big news beforehand.
The tweet states that Square Enix is taking a "new approach", though whether that means a new approach to their announcements, or a new approach to the series is unclear. There's also some mystery concerning who is actually working on the game. Instead of unveiling a game well ahead of release, the publisher is shortening its typical marketing cycle.
However, if you take the first letter of each sentence, the word "SHADOW" is revealed.
