Tesla powers on massive battery as South Australia prepares for summertime energy demands

Tesla's South Australia battery starts delivering power a day early

In March, the State Government came out with its Energy Plan to deliver clean, affordable and reliable energy to South Australians and included the nation's largest battery to store renewable energy and have back up power when it is needed.

The world's biggest lithium ion battery, built by Tesla, was switched on on Friday in South Australia, ahead of the State Government's deadline of the beginning of the summer, and well ahead of Tesla CEO Elon Musk's self-imposed deadline of "100 days or it's free". Hornsdale Power Reserve says that the battery takes up less than 10,000 square meters of land. Tesla's battery farm is tied into Neoeon's Hornsdale wind farm, which is several hours north of Adelaide.

In July, French renewable energy company Neoen and Tesla were selected to deliver the project.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk boasted past year that he'd make the battery in 100 days or it's free, and he did it with more than a month to spare.

The world's biggest battery was officially released in Australia on Friday.

The battery is said to be capable of powering 30,000 homes, said Yuen Low, an analyst at Shore Capital.

Additionally, he has plus-plus raw power and has been clocked as an 80-grade runner, so there is seemingly nothing he can't do. The Texas Rangers now have the most money in their pool at $3.55 million followed by the New York Yankees at $3.5 million.

Russian Federation sees no obstacles for Iran's accession to SCO, PM says
Abdullah said that Afghanistan was seeking enhanced cooperation on anti-terrorism efforts between the SCO member states and Kabul. She will also attend the reception hosted by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on the same evening.

Today the state of South Australia announced that that battery-the world's largest-is now online, reports CNBC.

South Australia, which relies heavily on solar and wind-generated energy, has been scrambling to find a way to bolster its fragile power grid since the entire state suffered a blackout during a storm previous year.

Meanwhile, opponents of the South Australia's new pro-renewable energy solution argue that the battery is a "Hollywood Solution" in a country that still relies on fossil fuels, mainly coal, for two-thirds of its electricity.

Tesla said it hopes the project "provides a model for future deployments around the world".

The Australian grid operator has warned of potential shortages of gas-fired electricity across southeast Australia by late next year.

The system could make a contribution to solving South Australia's energy woes.
