Ohtani rumors start to swirl as MLB approves Japan deal

The New York Yankees will not sign Japanese two-way star Shohei Ohtani, according to general manager Brian Cashman.

Despite having nearly $3 million less global signing bonus money ($400,000) to offer Ohtani than teams like the Rangers and Yankees, the Red Sox carried some optimism that they could be the player's choice.

According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Ohtani's representatives informed the Yankees front office the franchise won't be afforded the opportunity to have an in-person meeting with the 23-year-old. The Rangers have been given no indication they are out of the running.

Major League Baseball just announced that its clubs have ratified the new posting agreement which will govern player transfers between MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) beginning November 1, 2018.

Ford Suing John Cena for Selling his Ford GT
But his love of cars has got him into hot water recently with Ford Motor Company surrounding its limited-edition Ford GT. Ford clearly wanted its GT owners to continue to be seen driving the GT for a while to positively represent its brand.

The move, however, puts a focus on a different contender for Ohtani's services: The Seattle Mariners. Ohtani's camp said the Yankees made a great presentation, but ultimately, he wants to play in a smaller market and on the West Coast.

Two other possibilities: San Diego and the San Francisco Giants.

Ohtani looks to be one of the first Major Leaguers to both pitch and hit, whether it's as a designated hitter or outfielder, on a regular basis. Assistant GM Josh Boyd has logged numerous trips to Japan in that time to help further a relationship.
