After a night of drinking earlier this week, Alex Bowen of Columbia, South Carolina was hungry and couldn't sleep, so he chose to swing by a local Waffle House for a bite to eat.

After waiting for 10 minutes to be helped, Bowen chose to take his late-night snack into his own hands.

He said he couldn't sleep, so he did something most of us would do: find a spot to grab something to eat. He also didn't see an employee right away. "When I was done I cleaned the grill, collected my ill-gotten sandwich and rolled out". As proof, he posted a photo on Facebook of himself smiling with a Waffle House employee. "I wouldn't normally have done that".

Apparently, Waffle House wasn't too happy with his decision to self-serve and told him so when he returned to the location later in the day to pay for his food.

"I$3 guess old Waffle House just gonna have to take the L on that one", he told WIS-TV. Turns out the employee was taking a nap at a table in the restaurant.

He admitted to ABC News, "I was pretty inebriated".

A statement from Waffle House said: "Our local Division Manager has spoken to Alex and apologized".

"Then it was go time", Bowen told WIS. They said that while they were impressed by Bowen's cooking skills, customers should never get behind the counter - for safety reasons. "Rather, they should get a quality experience delivered by friendly associates", the statement read.

"We are reviewing this incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action". "But if not, I'd know what to do", he said.
