Man Charged in 2010 Murder of Former Grizzlies Center Lorenzen Wright

Lorenzen Wright hangs on the rim after dunking during a 1997 NBA game against the Minnesota Timberwolves

The suspect, 46-year-old Billy Turner, was indicted on first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond, according to The Washington Post.

It wasn't until last month that authorities confirmed they seized a gun believed to be used in the murder of Wright.

Because of the grisly nature of the crime and Wright's celebrity, the case was considered among the highest profile unsolved mysteries in Memphis history. "Thank you, Jesus. You gotta pray for what you want and that's what I did". He played 13 seasons in the National Basketball Association for five different teams, although he had his longest stint with his hometown team, the Memphis Grizzlies. He averaged 8 points per game and more than 6 rebounds per game during his career. Former NBA players and friends including Anfernee Hardaway and Elliot Perry attended a memorial service for Wright in the days after his body was found.

Wright was last seen alive on July 18, 2010 as he left his ex-wife's house. According to a Memphis police affidavit, Robinson Wright told police that her ex-husband made a phone call in which he said he was going to "flip something for $110,000". Later she told authorities that she saw him leave with drugs and money. "We said many times that we had never stopped investigating". Dispatchers acknowledged they heard noises like gunshots before the call was dropped.

There was a $21,000 reward being offered for any information leading to an arrest. "She's hoping to find an answer", Governor Bill Haslam said.

A few days after that, Wright's mother filed a missing-persons report. He called 911 from a field late that night and his decomposed body was later found nearby by search dogs.
