Madison III wondered whether celebrity packaging will change because of the Hoffman responses, whether with the star himself, who like others in Hollywood could yet face more accusers, or other actors who watched Hoffman go viral and want to learn from his mistakes.

Hoffman responded defensively: "It's hanging in the air?".

Speaking on a panel at the Tribeca Film Festival in NY, the two battled over an accusation that surfaced last month that Hoffman groped and inappropriately touched Anna Graham Hunter when she was an intern on Hoffman's 1985 film "Death of a Salesman", according to The Washington Post.

Streep's story echoes Hoffman's own account of "very gently" pinching the rear of his "Graduate" co-star Katharine Ross as a way to loosen her up during their first screen test, Slate said.

"I believe what she wrote, yes", Oliver said, adding as he saw it, "there's no point in her lying". "You have indicted me".

Representatives for Oliver, Hoffman and Tribeca Film Institute, which hosted the panel, did not respond to requests for comment on this report. Oliver, however, didn't let the moment pass. In the 1997 film, a political spin doctor (played by De Niro) hires a Hollywood producer (Hoffman) to stage a fake war in Albania to distract the American public following a presidential sex scandal.

Oliver continued, "You've given no evidence to show that it didn't happen".

United Kingdom review: Manchester concert attack might have been stopped
Home Secretary Amber Rudd told Parliament today that Abedi was " a closed subject of interest at the time of the attack " and was therefore not under active investigation.

Oliver dismissed Hoffman's response and pressed him on his claim that the allegations were "not reflective of who I am", according to the Post.

"It is reflective of who you were", Oliver told the actor.

Hoffman, who seemed unaware this line of questioning was coming, said he felt as if Oliver was "putting me on display".

Hoffman then tried a different angle and asked why the victim didn't bring up the incident for 40 years which caused a groan from the audience. To which, he replied, "Yes". Oliver reasoned that she would have no reason to lie.

"Well, there is a point in her not bringing this up for 40 years", Hoffman shot back. Visibly disappointed, Oliver held his hands over his face and said, "Oh, Dustin". Barry Levinson, at one point, jumped in to try and defuse things with his own take. His show, Last Week Tonight, has become a platform of sorts in championing truth and justice over all, which has significantly impacted culture as we know it. This conversation, as uncomfortable as it was, is exactly the kind of frank confrontation that needs to happen if this cultural moment of reckoning is going to move forward. For his part, Oliver repeatedly apologized to the audience for "ruining" their evening, but explained, "I can't leave certain things unaddressed". "[But] there's an elephant in the room because, this particular incident, a conversation has not been had". "No one stands up to powerful men.'" Hoffman then looked to Levinson and asked, "Am I a powerful man?"

Reuters could not independently confirm Hunter's accusations.

On Monday, Hoffman added that "it didn't happen the way she reported", according to a Deadline Hollywood account of the exchange in NY. Here's Hoffman's full response following the Hunter allegations.
