China, Russia foreign ministers in India next week

Chinese border troops 'took a professional and responsible attitude' and carried out identification verification of the device the deputy director said

"India's move has infringed upon China's territorial sovereignty, and we are strongly dissatisfied with and opposed to this. As per standard protocol, the Indian border security personnel immediately alerted their Chinese counterparts to locate the UAV", Colonel Aman Anand, the Indian Army's spokesman said. The source said the drone had gone missing earlier this week, but the exact date of the incident was not revealed.

"The matter is being dealt with in accordance with the established protocols through institutional mechanisms to deal with situations along the India-China border areas", the military statement added.

The Indian Army uses the Heron drones to monitor the real-time movement of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

The report did not provide details of when or where the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) had violated the Sino-Indian border, nor did it mention what markings the drone had, said a Hindustan Times (HT) report.

The Indian UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) "intruded" into China's airspace and crashed, and China's border troops have conducted identification and verification over the vehicle, said Shuili, deputy head of the combat bureau of the Western Theatre Command's joint staff department.

In its diplomatic protest to India, "China asked the Indian side to stop the activities of the devices near the border and work with China to maintain peace and tranquillity of the border areas", Geng said. The two sides agreed to an "expeditious disengagement" of troops there about a week before Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met in an effort to mend ties at a summit hosted by China in September. The face-off had ended on August 28. They have also had ongoing disputes over sovereignty in other border areas, notably Aksai Chin, a Himalayan region that straddles their territorial demarcation in the west.

China said the drone crashed in "recent days" but didn't say where.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told media here yesterday that Wang will meet top Indian officials on its sidelines.

India and China were recently locked in a standoff in the Dokalam region after Chinese troops began constructing a road near the tri-junction with Bhutan.
