Bryan Singer Bohemian Rhapsody

Much of the alleged drama came due to Singer's going missing from the set, with cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel stepping in to helm shooting on several days.

Singer's clash with Malek, who portrays Freddie Mercury in the film, was reportedly caused by the director's absence and led to "on-set chaos".

The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday that Singer failed to show up to the London set on a number of occasions. This followed a series of rumors of erratic behavior by Singer on the film.

"Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody", a 2oth Century Fox spokesperson told TheWrap. Malek also reportedly filed complaints to Fox, citing Singer's disappearing acts as contributing to his unreliability and overall unprofessionalism.

Production was shut down on the movie, which stars Rami Malek as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, after Singer stopped showing up to work. For example, insiders tell THR that producers and his star had grown exhausted of Singer's behavior, which saw him routinely show up late to set.

The studio ended up terminating Singer's employment under his pay-or-play contract, which, as far as I understand it, means that Singer was paid in full even though he ended up getting fired.

According to another insider, Singer has claimed he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the tensions on the set.

It's not the first time someone high-profile has left the project. There's about two more weeks of filming scheduled, but a replacement director has not been announced yet.

No word yet on whether the chaos behind the scenes will have any affect on the release of Bohemian Rhapsody, which is now set to premiere on December 25, 2018. You can't just disappear when the tough gets going, and from the outside, it appears that's exactly what Singer did here - to a studio that stuck by the X-Men filmmaker through some hard times and troubling speculation, no less.
