The concept of a device that punches holes in paper and cardboard is 131-years-old today: an anniversary that Google has chose to celebrate with today's Google.

"#Google #Doodle pays tribute to hole puncher on 131st anniversary! missed #ChildrensDay? asked one Twitter user". The liveliness demonstrates a sheet of paper doing a little dance in the wake of being punched. But the predictions and all flew up in air and Google doodle made even an interesting and surprising update on Today morning.Well, that sounds like 131st Hole Punch celebration in the Eye of Google Doodle rather making a Doodle gif of Children's day. The animation was created by Gerben Steenks, a doodle designer at Google. Soennecken called the device "Papierlocher fur Sammelmappen", which means paper hole maker. Soennecken, who was the son of a blacksmith, has several inventions to his credit. On a larger scale, it is also used in the printing industry to punch hundreds of sheets of paper.

The German went on to establish the Soennecken office supply company and was later awarded an honorary title from the University of Bonn. The fruits of that labor make up most of the doodle, providing a happier use to the unwieldy mess usually left over from the task.

In the USA, the first patent for a hole puncher was given to Benjamin Smith from MA. The device featured a spring-loaded hole punch, and a receptacle to catch the confetti. While Smith's device was more for ticketing, Soennecken was laser focused on stationary, having already developed a type of calligraphy known as "round writing", and later the ring binder for all his holey sheets of paper to be collected in.

The sole objective of a hole puncher is to punch holes in paper, so that sheets can be bound together.

The hole puncher has been described as an understated but essential artifact of German engineering, which has remained unchanged over the years, according to the Google Blog Post.
