US, S. Korea joint exercise in Sea of Japan gets underway
American leaders, including President Donald Trump, have warned the belligerent regime not to "underestimate" or "test" US strength.
In a clear warning to Kim Jong Un administration at Pyongyang, US and South Korea have started four-day joint naval exercises at South Korea's eastern coast involving three USA aircraft carriers on Saturday.
The largest USA warship in Asia, the USS Ronald Reagan, will join the USS Nimitz and the USS Theodore Roosevelt in the naval exercise on November 11-14.
Trump has used his Asia tour to wrangle support for further isolating nuclear-armed North Korea, which conducted its largest-ever nuclear test in September and has test-fired dozens of missiles this year - including some thought capable of striking the mainland United States.
On Friday he warned world leaders gathered in the Vietnamese resort city of Danang that the Asia-Pacific region "must not be held hostage to a dictator's twisted fantasies". Three carriers will be likely together around Monday, according to a South Korean military source who did not like to be named.
Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the maneuvers are aimed at enhancing the credibility of "extended deterrence" against the North's nuclear and missile provocations.
Warsaw nationalist march draws tens of thousands
The march, in Warsaw, saw some supporters chanting "clean blood", "pure Poland " and "white Poland", The Guardian reports. Many carried the national white-and-red flag as others set off flares and firecrackers, filling the air with red smoke.
It will also involve 11 U.S. Aegis ships and seven South Korean vessels, including two Aegis ships.
SEOUL-The leaders of South Korea and China on Saturday agreed on the need to manage the security situation on the Korean peninsula in a stable way and to resolve North Korea-related tensions peacefully after a summit meeting, the South's presidential office said. The Aegis technology refers to missile tracking and guidance. The U.S. carriers will also participate in separate exercises with Japan.
Tensions have been running high since North Korea test-fired two intercontinental ballistic missiles in July, conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test on September 3 and flew ballistic missiles over Japan on August 29 and September 15.
Speaking on the same, Trump said on Wednesday, "Together, we dream of a Korea that is free, a peninsula that is safe, and families that are reunited once again".
It also flew two new midrange missiles over Japan and threatened to launch them toward Guam, a US Pacific territory and military hub.
