A brief history of Jerry Jones explaining why he refused to give up his flip phone
In the letter, which repeatedly criticized the committee chairman, the Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, Jones demanded that all owners, not just the committee members, vote on the pay package.
Jones, among the league's most powerful owners, informed the six owners on the compensation committee that he has hired attorney David Boies and is prepared to sue if the group votes to extend Goodell's deal, according to two individuals speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the topic. Now, the letter claims Blank has walked back his promise that there would be "unanimity" before the extension was finished.
Jones believes he was lied to by Goodell who told him Elliott, who was never charged or arrested in the case, would face no suspension and considers it an unforgivable breach of trust, according to a source.
If Jones sues the league, things could even uglier, but it may not do him any good. The owners very much enjoy their deal with the players, who do not have guaranteed contracts, and would like to ensure Goodell earns his money, too.
While many owners, like Jones, are unhappy with Goodell and multiple unidentified sources told OTL that owners think the NFL league office is dysfunctional, a reported "silent majority" of owners wants to keep Goodell in place so he can lead the next negotiations with the NFLPA on a new collective bargaining agreement after the current CBA expires in 2021.
Jones is one of the owners who helped to give Goodell nearly unlimited power in terms of his ability to punish players.

Congo DR had created a scare earlier on, when they they led Guinea by 1-0, with an own goal by Ousmane Sidibe in the 62nd minute. The Moroccan national team is 45 minutes from securing its ticket to the 2018 Russia World Cup.
Jones called the Elliott suspension an over-correction by Goodell. With Boies' help, Jones is trying to move the other owners toward his side; Jones needs 24 owners to approve of Goodell's firing.
The extension would carry through 2024.
He said was unaware of any lawsuit being filed by Jones against the league. "I don't know where it is coming from".
But Jones also has been heavily involved in the public discussion about players kneeling for the national anthem. Goodell has not taken a hard-line stance, saying he would like the players to stand for "The Star-Spangled Banner", but has not mandated it. Jones, meanwhile, has said some players taking a knee has hurt the league, and he has threatened his Cowboys onto their feet with the penalty of not playing if they protest. His six-game suspension of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott may have touched off a protracted, expensive legal fight with one of the league's most influential owners that could have a far reaching impact on the future of the NFL.
