Putin, Trump to meet in Vietnam

Trump Russia Make America Great Again

Putin told factory workers in the Urals city of Chelyabinsk: "In response to our alleged interference in their election, they want to create problems for the election of the president of Russian Federation".

Four U.S. officials say the countries are discussing a deal ahead of a potential meeting Friday between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday accused the United States of trying to interfere with Russia's presidential campaign in retaliation for what the Kremlin dismisses as unfounded US allegations that Moscow interfered in the 2016 USA presidential vote.

The Russian president suggested the timing of the Russian election, in March 2018, meant that a doping scandal coinciding with the run-up to next February's Winter Olympics in South Korea could be used to sow disaffection among sportspeople.

Relations between Moscow and Washington have plummeted as a United States probe has accused Trump's former campaign aides of secretly meeting Kremlin-connected officials.

Putin has not announced whether he will run for another term in the March 18 election.

Russian Federation has vehemently denied allegations of interfering in the USA election past year that brought Trump to power.

The International Olympic Committee this month disqualified two Russian cross-country skiers.

Maxim Vylegzhanin, Alexei Petukhov, Evgenia Shapovalova and Yulia Ivanova were all sanctioned following doping investigations into Sochi 2014.

The four were named in the McLaren report last December, which alleges that a state-sponsored doping programme existed in Russian Federation between 2011 and 2015.

The revelations of widespread doping at the Sochi Olympics dealt a blow to Putin and to Russians in general, said Alexander Gabuev, a senior fellow at Carnegie Moscow Center.

"Russia never had and, I hope, will never have a system of state doping of which we are being accused".
