Nintendo To Increase Switch Production; Planning To Ship 50 Million Units By April 2019
That's more than predecessor Wii U sold in its entire life to date, but apparently even that torrent pace is too slow to meet the kind of future demand Nintendo is expecting. Currently, Nintendo's projections for the fiscal year are to sell 14 million Switch units, though the increased production of the system for next fiscal year could change depending on how well the system performs during the upcoming holiday season (and the Switch's first holiday season). In both Japan and North America, stock for the Switch always sells out.
The company plans on ramping up production of the units to an estimated 25 to 30 million for fiscal 2018, which begins in April, according to The Wall Street Journal. The console has also attracted the attention of third-party studios, receiving ports of Doom (out today) and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (out on November 17).

Nintendo's Switch console could be a bit easier to find next year. While Wii and Wii U were released during the holiday season, it's important to note that the Nintendo Switch launch was timed completely differently, in March. Nomura Securities analyst Junko Yamamura, the outlet says, predicts the console will sell "115.8 million units by March 2023". However, Nintendo's apparent willingness to increase the availability of Switch consoles makes the supply shortfalls of the NES and SNES Classics particularly confusing. Breath of the Wild's sales (of the game's Switch version), meanwhile, have surpassed 4.7 million; and Mario Kart 8 has sold more than 4.4 million copies.
