Klopp moved to snap up the Scotland worldwide in the summer window and Reds fans believed that the club had landed their new first choice left-back.

Alberto Moreno has spoken of his "strange relationship" with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, which has improved this season.

Moreno explained: "It has been odd".

"I wanted to stay at the club and fight for my place but when we signed another left-back (Andy Robertson, from Hull) I did not believe I had much future, Klopp told me that he could promise no guaranteed game time".

'When I saw that a right-footed midfielder like Milner was the left-back, I thought something was happening. "He did not give me any explanations". I did, but the opportunity didn't come. I went to talk to him five or six times and the message was the same, but nothing changed.

He added: "It was important to be able make a difference". He even speaks to me in Spanish sometimes.

Back in favour after some calamitous errors in the past, Moreno's improvement has seen him earn a Spain recall and he could win his first cap since March 2014 against Costa Rica on Saturday night.

"He's helping me a lot and I think it shows".

"I started from scratch and here we are".
