The First-Ever Hijab-Wearing Barbie is Designed After Olympian Ibtihaj Muhammad
Last year, Mattel modeled a doll after Ashley Graham to "celebrate her pushing boundaries within the fashion industry and promoting the messages of body positivity". Thankfully, in recent years they've begun to change that typical image by introducing dolls with different interests and backgrounds.
But there's one thing Barbie hasn't done until now - worn a hijab, or Islamic headscarf or covering. It's been created to honour and pay tribute to the American athlete, Ibtihaj Muhammad, who competed in the Olympics in fencing.
The medalist sent a tweet about her Barbie doll, calling it a "dream come true".
Muhammad's doll has a sabre and fencing uniform, athletic legs, and even her style of eyeliner.
Now. she has a doll in her own likeness courtesy of Barbie. "I don't know if you can tell, but I'm so excited!" she exclaimed.
Lyft is expanding to Toronto, its first worldwide city

More Sunshine, Warmer Monday
But, our Pinpoint Weather team will be watching the system all week to make sure we don't have to add in accumulation. Overall a fantastic fall week of weather as days will feature more sunshine than clouds, and nights clear and chilly.
Muhammad said she is excited to see this first of its kind doll and believes that the girls who shop for these dolls may look up to them.
Muhammad, who was presented with her doll at Glamour's 2017 Women of the Year Summit, hopes this historic moment will inspire the next generation of girls to live fearlessly. "I wore it to the Olympic games, so I wanted my Barbie to have the ideal winged liner and also to wear a hijab".
As part of Mattel's effort to make its collection of dolls more diverse, they added a doll in their "Sheroes" collection modelled after US Olympic fencer, Ibtihaj Muhammad. "So to be in this moment, as a U.S. Olympian, to have Mattel, such a global brand, diversify their toy line to include a Barbie doll that wears a hijab is very moving to me".
"My mom made efforts when I was a kid to bring dolls into the house that were only dolls of color", she said. "I feel like we're just shattering all the little glass ceilings".

British parliament to be given vote on Brexit deal
Any Brexit deal will now be subject to a separate Act of Parliament, which MPs and peers would have to approve in early 2019. However, like everything with this government the devil will be in the detail.
