IPhone X Face ID Fooled By A Mask

Survey says around 60% of buyers want the iPhone X $1149 model! | TheTechNews

Apple iPhone X FaceID crack attempts; do they work?

Apple's revolutionary new Face ID technology can be hacked. A lot of them have failed despite spending tons of time and resources.

A cyber security firm has claimed it has been able to trick the iPhone X's Face ID by using a specially crafted mask to deceive the technology.

But there's a few issues with the methods behind the video, none of which BKAV's blog post quite answered. For those who don't know, the face-scanning system on the iPhone works by a True Depth camera system that scans your face every time you are using your phone. The company says its recipe combines a handmade silicon nose that the company commissioned - it required unspecified tweaking before working - plus printouts from a 3D printer as well as two-dimensional printouts and handmade artwork, especially for the skin. "Face ID on this iPhone X is not as secure as Apple has announced", the employee says.

So while the company claims that the proof of concept shows that Face ID isn't an "effective security measure", that's far from the case.

The researchers concede, however, that their technique would require a detailed measurement or digital scan of a the face of the target iPhone's owner. As soon as the cloth is removed from the mask, the phone unlocks.

Marc Rogers, a researcher at the security firm Cloudflare, told Wired that if Bkav has indeed succeeded in hacking Face ID, the most surprising aspect would be the discovery that printed eyes could deceive it - no eye motion needed. They might have "weakened" the Face ID by training it while some of the owner's facial features were obscured. "Many people in the world have tried different kinds of masks, but all failed", the posting states. Mashable tested the feature on identical twins by making one register his face on the iPhone X, verify that he could unlock the phone by looking at it and then hand the locked device to his identical twin brother.

Gradually, the lineup became pretty successful and the company is launching a number of Galaxy A smartphone models every year. It could also come with IP68 certification for water, dust resistance, and will feature a Type-C USB port for charging.

Like the previous question, this one is important to note based on how Face ID's algorithm learns.

"Everything went much more easily than you expect". It might be a cause for worry if you are a celebrity, politician, billionaire, or a spy.

As you can see, the researcher pulls a piece of cloth from a mask facing an iPhone X and it unlocks instantly.

IT'S barely been available for ten days, but conniving hackers have already cracked the iPhone X's facial recognition security system. You can register Face ID on anything with a face, including the mask. Not necessarily. Bkav affirmed that the efforts involved to make this mask are hard to work for a normal user.

"As for biometric security, fingerprint is the best". Users can also remotely disable Face ID if they lose their iPhone.

Apple iPhone X has been the talk of the town ever since it saw the light of the day. Bkav said it would reveal more in a press conference later this week.
