Industrial output grows at 3.8 per cent in September

UK industrial production was surprisingly strong in September

Factory output in September beat analysts’ expectations in September but Britain’s overall trade performance still deteriorated for the third quarter as a whole

France industrial production rebounded in September, data from the statistical office Insee showed Friday.

The reports round off a quarter which saw economic growth pick up slightly to 0.4 percent, a level which remains below its pre-Brexit referendum average as political uncertainty and inflation crimp consumer spending.

Britain's industrial output grew at its fastest pace this year in September, according to official figures, owing to growing machinery and equipment output. It showed a growth of 2.5 per cent in first half of this fiscal compared to 5.8 per cent a year before.

The indices of industrial production for the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors for the month of September 2017 stand at 94.6, 125.1 and 150.5 respectively, with the corresponding growth rates of 7.9 percent, 3.4 percent and 3.4 percent as compared to September 2016.

The deficit in September alone narrowed to 2.75 billion pounds, with the shortfall in goods alone falling to 11.3 billion pounds as exports rose 4.5 percent and imports climbed just 0.4 percent.

Some important items showing high positive growth during the current month over the same month in previous year include "separators including decanter centrifuge" (117.4%), "bodies of trucks, lorries and trailers" (94.5%), and steroids and hormonal preparations (including anti-fungal preparations). The consumer durables and consumer non-durables have recorded growth of (-) 4.8 percent and 10.0 percent respectively.
