Dream Chaser also recently gained a cargo contract with NASA to cart food, water, and scientific research to and from the International Space Station (ISS). Ten years into development, the spacecraft completed a successful free-flight drop test in the Mojave Desert in November 2017.
In August, the Dream Chaser was flown through the air for more than two hours during a captive-carry test while attached to a helicopter.
Hurricanes move up to No. 2 in AP poll
Wisconsin , at 10-0 one of three undefeated Power 5 teams that include Miami , is No. 4 in the coaches poll and No. 5 in the AP. Miami is back in the national conversation and back near the top of the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll.
Dream Chaser made a landing at a USA air force base Edwards, which is located in the Mojave desert in California. Sierra Nevada's six-mission contract calls for Dream Chaser to start delivering cargo to the space station in 2019. The device was tested in free flight mode and landing. The photos show the craft that looks like a small Space Shuttle in the sky and landing on the runway at Armstrong. They're created to be used 15 or more times and have autonomous launch, flight and landing capabilities, according to Sierra Nevada Corp. The unmanned test landing marks a major milestone for the Sierra Nevada Corporation, after a similar 2013 flight ended in a crash after the landing gear failed to deploy correctly. It is about 30 feet long (9 meters) and capable of hauling up to 12,125 lbs. The cargo-carrying spaceplane is expected to supply the ISS for NASA.
Two other companies, SpaceX and Orbital ATK, will use their own spacecraft to fly delivery missions for NASA as part of the CRS-2 program. The Dream Chaser, however, which is meant to launch on top of an Atlas V rocket, glides down to Earth like a plane after reentering the atmosphere, landing horizontally on a runway. The Dream Chaser from Sierra Nevada offers more reliable landings than the other two now offer. "The testing will validate the aerodynamic properties, flight software and control system performance of the Dream Chaser".
