DC Comics suspends Superman editor Eddie Berganza following allegations of sexual misconduct

Eddie Berganza Fired DC Comics

Following a report of years of unchecked sexual harassment allegations, longtime DC Comics editor Eddie Berganza was sacked from the company on Monday.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Entertainment said, "We are committed to eradicating harassment and ensuring that all employees, as well as our freelance community, are aware of our policies, are comfortable reporting any concerns and feel supported by our Company". He now oversees editing of the Superman and Green Lantern titles, as well as the current Dark Nights: Metal event. Following another complaint in 2012, Berganza was demoted to group editor.

On Saturday, one day after BuzzFeed News' report, DC announced it was suspending Berganza and launching a "prompt yet careful review into next steps". "But as a fan and supporter, I expect them and Warner Bros to do the right thing and fire Eddie Berganza".

In fact, Buzzfeed's report wasn't the first time Berganza had been publicly accused of sexual misconduct.

Though neither Marsham nor Hilty reported Berganza to their supervisors or to HR after these incidents, they both, along with at least three other DC employees including Asselin, went to HR as a group with their concerns in 2010, when Berganza was being considered for the role of executive editor.

Second Lib proposes same-sex marriage bill
Almost eight in 10 Australians who received the Australian Bureau of Statistics same-sex marriage survey form have already had their say.

All of the women who spoke to Buzzfeed regarding the allegations no longer work for DC Comics and one woman spoke anonymously due to the fact that her boyfriend still does work for the company.

Warner Bros. and its DC Entertainment brand reached out to Buzzfeed to say the firing of Berganza is an example that the company is, "committed to eradication harassment". Instead of being investigated, or fired, Berganaza was named executive editor later that same year. In fact, Berganza's predatory behavior has reportedly been a topic of discussion around the comic book industry for years. Every woman who complained to the company regarding this matter has since left DC.

Berganza had worked with DC since the early 1990s.

Last week, a Buzzfeed expose revealed that DC Comics had a villain in its midst.
