Conor McGregor shoves referee after jumping into ring at Bellator 187
14 November 2017, 12:30 | Andy Ferguson
Conor McGregor's first fight back in the Octagon is expected to be against Tony Ferguson
It sounds like Conor McGregor's Bellator incident will be costing the UFC, Tony Ferguson, and himself a lucrative Christmas.
Mike Mazzulli, president of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports and the director of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, was cageside on the night. "So, I do commend UFC to some extent for doing that".
Referee Marc Goddard quickly attempted to remove McGregor from the fray, a move that made the UFC lightweight champion irate. But even by the promotion's standards, it would have been extraordinary if Conor McGregor escaped any punishment for his antics at a Bellator event in Dublin on Friday last. The incident came just three weeks after another bit of drama concerning McGregor and Goddard, as the latter was the third man in the cage at UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland on October 21, and was forced to reprimand McGregor from loudly cornering teammate Artem Lobov from cageside during his bout with Andre Fili, despite not in Lobov's corner as an official second.
Mazzulli contacted top officials in the UFC following the flashpoints and has claimed that McGregor has been pulled from the December 30 event as a result.
Mazzulli said he is speaking to his attorneys upon returning to the U.S.to figure out what type of discipline he intends to carry out for McGregor's actions. He slapped a Bellator staff member, who tried pushing him away from the cage.
