October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and this October marks the 6th straight year SC has ranked in the top five in the United States for the number of women killed by men, ranking fifth for the second year in a row. However, there is another very serious issue that needs a great deal of attention and awareness - domestic violence!
There are ways people can become involved and help end domestic violence in their community. "So we need to look at all the ripple effects that domestic violence has on our community". Every child, especially our teens, needs to learn what "domestic violence" means, how to recognize it and how to get help when the need arises. She feels talking about domestic violence can be hard because it is a problem that can be contained in a family unit.

Domestic violence is commonly viewed as physical abuse, but the NCADV says it also includes "name-calling, threats, possessiveness or distrust", all of which the abuser may apologize for and say he or she is doing them "out of love or care".
