Facebook is testing adding context to news stories

Facebook tries fighting fake news with publisher info button on links

The button will appear as a small "i".

In addition to the Wikipedia entry, users will get trending and related content, and details on how the article is being shared.

In a video message, Facebook's product management director for news, Andrew Anker, said the goal is to provide users with information that helps them decide "which stories on Facebook to read, share and trust".

What Are Analysts Suggestions On The Kraft Heinz Company (KHC)
The Kraft Heinz Company (NASDAQ: KHC ) shows a return on investment value of 5.30% evaluating the competency of investment. The company's distance from 52-week high price is -20.46% and the current price is 1.14% away from 52-week low price.

The company says it will add a button to articles that gives more context about what users are reading without leaving the site. The information panel is an effort to help Facebook users determine the credibility of the publisher by providing more information about its history. Tap the button and up pops a variety of additional information.

"This new feature is created to provide people some of the tools they need to make an informed decision about which stories to read, share, and trust", the company said in a statement. Facebook has said that this update will not affect Facebook pages in any way. "This work reflects feedback from our community, including publishers who collaborated on the feature development as part of the Facebook Journalism Project" says Su. "We count on Wikipedia to quickly resolve such situations and refer you to them for information about their policies and programs that address vandalism".

This is just the latest feature Facebook rolled out to fight fake news. Fake news stories also circulated on the platform in the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting. Facebook doesn't expect the changes to significantly impact the reach of Pages, though publishers that knowingly distribute fake news could see fewer clicks if the Info button repels readers by debunking the articles.
