Couple Finds Hidden Camera in Their Airbnb

Airbnb guest says secret camera definitely caught him walking around naked

Couple in shock after discovering secret camera in Airbnb bedroom

Natt had been active on Airbnb for two years.

He took a closer look and found that it contained a hidden camera, pointed directly at the bed. This winter, a Korean couple also found a camera hidden in a smoke detector in Japan Airbnb rental, and a Chinese couple found a similar device in a Taiwan Airbnb rental.

"We did have the opportunity to analyze what was on the SD card and there are a couple of different people on them", said Longboat Key Police Lt. Robert Bourque. The host, Wayne Natt, was charged with "video voyeurism".

'We don't know if there are local victims someone who may have been dating him or a companion that doesn't realize they are being videotaped, and then we have the other side of who he rented to through Airbnb'.

Starnes said he works in the tech world and saw a dark opening in favor of the smoke indicator. Starnes says Airbnb needs to do more to keep this type of thing from happening. The company's standards state that members should not "have undisclosed or ill-sited cameras in your listing, spy on other people, or otherwise violate others' privacy, copyrights, or trademarks". But police say the cameras can be operated remotely and they found numerous videos in the bedroom, including one of the in couple.

"My wife and I are distressed by this situation", Starnes said. Bourque said he let them know everybody gave him agree to be taped and that he conceded there are many recordings of individuals occupied with sex parties he facilitated at the home.

Amazon's Alexa can now recognize different voices and give personalized responses
Around 11% or so of USA consumers own an Amazon Echo or Google Home, making the percentages relatively small but the numbers high. The announcement comes as Amazon continues to work on its software features as it widens its lead in the smart speakers market.

"They're also wifi capable so they'd beam a signal - he didn't have to hardwire them in", said Bourque.

Natt bonded out of jail but wouldn't come to his door for comment.

But police told WFLA the cameras can be operated remotely and that a search turned up numerous recordings - including one of the couple from Indiana.

Airbnb sent a statement saying they are "outraged" and "permanently banned" Natt from their community.

"Our team has reached out to local law enforcement to aid them with their investigation of this egregious offense and we hope justice is served", Breit said.

However, police are skeptical about his claims: "If people are consenting to recording sexual activity, why is [the camera] in a hidden smoke alarm?"
