President Trump met with survivors of Hurricane Irma in Naples, Florida Thursday afternoon.

In the United States, weakened Hurricane Irma has spun northwest into the southeastern areas, drenching the region and causing rivers to overflow.

Nevertheless, the president said he is convinced forward progress to restore power in Florida's 90-plus-degree weather is unprecedented.

Walking along a street in Naples Estates with his wife, Melania, the president encountered piles of broken siding and soggy furniture sitting on a front porch, and residents and volunteers who were happy to get a presidential visit.

Trump praised first responders and local officials for their handling of the storm.

Trump says alongside Scott and other Florida officials that he knows "at a certain point it ends for you and we can't let it end".

Having left a trail of destruction in the Caribbean, Hurricane Irma hit the Florida Keys at the weekend and made its way up the Gulf Coast before dissipating.

Millions are still without power across Florida, and several areas have been devastated by Irma, especially the Florida Keys. Gas stations along the way advertised that they didn't have fuel.

Across the state, the cost of repairs is expected to run to tens of billions of dollars. Hurricane Harvey dropped record rains and caused flooding in Texas.
