Sadio Mane has disagreed with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher that he should have been red carded for his challenge on Ederson last weekend.

After the Manchester City match, Mane apologised to Ederson via Facebook, saying: "I hope and wish Ederson a quick recovery".

The red card split fans and pundits, with some claiming it was a red card and others noting it was nothing of the sort, and Liverpool clearly felt it was the latter, and appealed the three game ban - which will not be upheld.

"I'm sure enough people will find a reason to say it's 100% a red card", continued the German. "I thought our appeal was absolutely right", Klopp said at a news conference ahead of Wednesday's Champions League Group E opener against Sevilla at Anfield.

Cincinnati Bengals fire offensive coordinator after 0-2 start with no touchdowns
They are the first team to fail to score a touchdown in consecutive home games since the 1939 Philadelphia Eagles. Dalton threw four interceptions and lost a fumble in the season opening 20-0 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Much was made of the incident in the aftermath, with most of the debate centring on whether or not Mane deserved to see a straight red card for his part in the accidental clash.

"It's not an English thing". And obviously Ederson was not lucky. "It looks really bad and he was also lucky nothing more serious happened".

The Senegal worldwide retained his place in Jurgen Klopp's side for the visit of the Spanish club after the winger was sent off in the first half of their 5-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend.

What I can't understand is the lack of attention paid to Ederson's obvious overplaying of the injury and the fact that he was able to watch the remainder of the match from the stands with a plaster the only evidence he had even been involved in the collision. "He wanted to get the ball", Klopp added.
