The Bengals on Friday fired offensive coordinator?Ken Zampese following the team's lackluster 0-2 start, marking the first time in the 50-year history of the organization that a coordinator has been fired during the season. They are the first team to fail to score a touchdown in consecutive home games since the 1939 Philadelphia Eagles.
Dalton threw four interceptions and lost a fumble in the season opening 20-0 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
While Jackson is rightfully praised for his offensive mind and what he was able to do with the Bengals' offense while he was the offensive coordinator, I do think that Zampese's brief tenure in that role is entitled to some contextualization.
According to Florio, the site was told by a league source that the firing of Zampese essentially became necessary after head coach Marvin Lewis faced "a near mutiny" in the locker room. Lazor last coordinated the Miami Dolphins in 2014 and 2015. Lazor was the team's quarterbacks coach.
Louis Cop Who Killed Anthony Smith Found Not Guilty
Greitens put the National Guard on standby in the days leading up to the verdict as a precautionary step ahead of possible unrest. She later said that in such shootings "we must re-examine not just how we prosecute these cases but how investigate them".
Dalton arrived in Cincinnati much later, as the Bengals drafted the former TCU Horned Frog in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Lewis is surely hoping a change in the coaching staff can spark the offense moving forward, but likely feels his own seat warming up, especially since he's in the final year of his contract. Again, we're not good enough today.
One player pleading for the "new life" Lewis mentioned is star receiver A.J. Green, one of the Bengals' best offensive talents, who was frustrated about his targets after Thursday's loss. "If you look at it like that, then, yes, we're not scoring". "They're playing their butt off, while we're playing like s-- right now".
For the non-math majors out there, the Bengals are averaging 4.5 points per game (for the non-football fans out there, that's horrifically bad).
