"Rather than let that take effect and squeeze the North Koreans and get them back from the brink, we're escalating it and using language that President Kim uses in North Korea".
French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday warned against an "escalation of tensions" over North Korea amid a growing war of words between Washington and Pyongyang.
The president appeared to draw another red line that would trigger a USA attack against North Korea and "big, big trouble" for its leader, Kim Jong Un.
The Trump-Xi phone call came as Japan set up a missile-defense system in western areas of the country, following a threat by North Korea to fire missiles over Japan toward the USA territory of Guam. "During all these visits, the North Koreans emphasized that they wanted peaceful relations with the United States and their neighbors, but were convinced that we planned a preemptive military strike against their country".
Earlier this week, France had praised Trump's "determination" in standing up to Pyongyang. In addition to restraining the warlike rhetoric, our leaders need to encourage talks between North Korea and other countries, especially China and Russian Federation.
The comments came after Trump unleashed a slew of fresh threats against North Korea on Friday, declaring the USA military "locked and loaded".
According to the White House, Trump and Xi affirmed that the recent adoption of a new UN Security Council resolution regarding North Korea was an important and necessary step toward achieving peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
"Hopefully it will all work out", he told reporters in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has said the regime of Kim Jong Un is responsible for the crisis over North Korea's nuclear programme and must now "fix it". "North Koreans are not suicidal". For one, they didn't want to put somebody in a corner.
The two leaders also reiterated a commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
The Chinese foreign ministry said Xi urged Trump to avoid "words and deeds" that would "exacerbate" the already-tense situation and to exercise restraint and seek a political settlement.
There is no military solution to the North Korea nuclear issue.

Fox sizzles at PGA Champs
The 25-year-old Japanese star already was 5 under for his round in tough conditions, and he added two birdies after the rain. That could leave the final major of the year up for grabs over the final 36 holes on the weekend, but not for everybody.
