Los Angeles city council rubber-stamped the host city contract today, paving the way for bringing the 2028 Summer Olympics to southern California and ceding the 2024 Games to Paris.
"We have to look at [eSports] because we can't say, 'It's not us".
Las Vegas recently constructed a 15,000-square-foot esports arena to host tournaments and this month's International Dota 2 Championship held in Seattle saw competitors vying for a piece of the event's $20 million prize money.
With last year's memorable opening ceremony featuring iconic game character Mario, it's clear that video game culture is slowly making its way into the Olympics.

Paris will be awarded the 2024 games next month at an International Olympic Committee gathering in Lima, Peru, barring any setbacks.
