eSports Being Considered For 2024 Summer Olympics

Paris Considers eSports for 2024 Olympic Games

Los Angeles city council rubber-stamped the host city contract today, paving the way for bringing the 2028 Summer Olympics to southern California and ceding the 2024 Games to Paris.

"We have to look at [eSports] because we can't say, 'It's not us".

Las Vegas recently constructed a 15,000-square-foot esports arena to host tournaments and this month's International Dota 2 Championship held in Seattle saw competitors vying for a piece of the event's $20 million prize money.

With last year's memorable opening ceremony featuring iconic game character Mario, it's clear that video game culture is slowly making its way into the Olympics.

The interview also claims that Estanguet is of the belief that "a contest of digital prowess should be considered a legitimate sport", but also understands that the road to legitimacy, both in terms of broader public perception and in an official capacity at the Olympics, will not be a simple yes or no scenario. "Yes, the youth are interested in eSport and this kind of thing".

US Futures Point South as US-North Korea Rhetoric Heats Up
Penney slumped as much as 18.25 percent to a record low after the retailer reported a bigger-than-expected quarterly loss. The local currency closed at 1,143.50 won against the US dollar, down 1.50 won from the previous session's close.

"Look, there's 11 years before the Games, so it wouldn't hurt if they took a year or even six months instead of rushing", said Jed Parriott, an organizer of the NOlympics LA group. "Let's see if we can find some bridges", Estanguet added.

Final decisions on additions to the Paris games won't be made until 2020 leaving plenty of time for argument. But will the prim-and-proper Olympics adopt eSports with the same tolerance?

"I don't want to say "no" from the beginning", Estanguet continued.

Paris will be awarded the 2024 games next month at an International Olympic Committee gathering in Lima, Peru, barring any setbacks.

Philadelphia 76ers CEO Scott O'Neil said at the time that it's "a good opportunity to reach younger fans in a different way and hopefully incorporate them into our fanbase". The biggest games at popular esports events, however, include League of Legends, Call of Duty, Dota 2 and Federation Internationale de Football Association are among the most popular games in competition.
