Mauricio Pochettino expects Tottenham Hotspur to spend late in transfer window

09 August 2017, 03:45 | Todd Saunders

Spurs want to add another right-back to their squad alongside Kieran Trippier and youngster Kyle Walker-Peters.

The club's summer is another argument in favour of the transfer window closing before the start of the season - something Pochettino has advocated - but for now the club face playing the first two or three matches with last season's injury-hit squad. Pochettino has said that it is a struggle to convince players to join, given the strength of his current first XI.

Kieran Trippier suffered an ankle injury on Saturday and left Wembley Stadium on crutches and in a protective boot.

They're not. It's been proved the last two years. I keep hearing "we're good enough" but I'm sorry, they're not good enough at the moment.

Pochettino refused to give away his contingency plan for replacing Trippier for this weekend but should Tottenham delve into the transfer market, teams will know they are desperate and charge more than what the player is actually worth. While buying many players doesn't guarantee success, it does however add numbers to the size of the squad.

"We have a really big challenge this season, because it's not only to fight with the big clubs to try and win [the title] again, but the other thing is try to make Wembley our home", the Spurs boss told talkSPORT's Ian Abrahams at Wednesday's Premier League launch event.

The Spurs boss added that the transfer market "is a little bit insane, but you can not stop the evolution of football", and stressed: "We will find the right players to challenge".

Tottenham went as far as trying to change the dimensions of the pitch to resemble that of the old White Hart Lane, but ultimately were denied in their bid to make it smaller. An injury to either Kane or Alli, or even Christian Eriksen, could cost them a lot of points.

The North London outfit are the only club out of last season's top seven that have not bought any new players this summer. They will be playing their home matches at Wembley during the coming season and their record there is already infamous. In 2015-16, they lost to Manchester United on the opening day and never regained the ground on eventual champions Leicester City.
