New Charges Filed in Fatal Shooting of Police Officer. Charged is William Grant Noble of Clinton
As a result of the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of Clinton, Missouri Police Officer Gary Michael, Henry County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields has filed a Complaint charging William Grant Noble, age 35 of Clinton with the class E felony of tampering with physical evidence.
Lowe says he couldn't immediately specify the style of the rifle or how investigators came to find it.
Noble is now being held in the Henry County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
According to the probable cause statement, Noble was interviewed by police on August 10.
He showed officers three weapons upstairs and then took them to a safe downstairs, which was behind a large amount of furniture and trash.
Police say he then changed his story and admitted he bought the gun for McCarthy who had asked him to do so.
The affidavit did not say why officers wanted to talk to him, but they told him they wanted to see guns he owned. Noble began to act "visibly upset and faked crying".

BMW violently plunges off Texas parking garage
Burch, who was uninjured, told Austin's KXAN News he was on the phone with his mother when the BMW struck his vehicle. Surveillance video captured the moment a auto plunged seven stories off the side of a parking garage in Texas.
Noble initially told two officers who visited his home on Thursday that he bought the rifle and sold it to McCarthy.
Lowe says the relationship between McCarthy and Noble is unclear. As police were leaving, they say they asked Noble if he knew where the weapon was now located.
When Noble asked what kind of weapon was used to kill the officer, an investigator with the highway patrol told him, "He knew the answer to this question", according to the affidavit.
Noble told the officers he "panicked" when he returned home on Monday - the day after the shooting - and found the rifle leaning against an inside doorway, the statement said. The detectives asked against and Noble allegedly said he did know where the gun was.
Police say Noble took them to the intersection of NW 300th Road and NW 131st Road, north of the Clinton city limits.
One of the officers walked to the edge of the water and saw the stock of a gun underwater.
