GETTYJamie Carragher thinks Chelsea or Manchester City will win the Premier League
Carragher, fuming with what he'd just witness during the opening 45 minutes, said that Liverpool had failed to resolve any of their defensive problems from last season.
In the Sky Sports studio, Carragher and Jamie Redknapp weren't impressed with Liverpool's defending. You see the same thing year in, year out.
He said: "You've had a pre-season and nothing's changing". What have they been working on?'
But speaking after the stalemate at Vicarage Road, Carragher argued that while Van Dijk is an improvement on Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, he won't change Klopp's fragile setup.
He's also seen his fortunes with the Dutch national team change, despite enjoying some exemplary performances at Celtic, the Breda native global debut came in October 2015 and has to date played 12 times for Oranje.
'They play so high and wide that they have a centre-back exposed there all the time. It's not rocket science, set-pieces and counter-attacks. Watford should've been one-nil up before the corner, nothing changes.
He added: "You need people that want to head the ball".
Although Carragher's innocent mistake was laughed up by an very bad lot of people on social media, it's safe to say it is the first time that the adenoids, a body part with a similar function the the tonsils, have ever been mentioned after a football match.
The latter cited the long-running problem of Liverpool's zonal marking system as the culprit for their poor performance, with a statistic showing that the Reds have conceded 27 goals from set-pieces since Jurgen Klopp's arrival backing up his assessment. "It leaves centre backs exposed, I don't care who's at centre back, you can't do that much to stop those goals".
I think everybody's missed this mischievous "friendship".
The former Reds midfielder did, though, have some positive words for Sadio Mane, who made it 1-1 with as superb finish and threatened regularly, as he likened the Senegalese to former Arsenal star Thierry Henry.
Earlier on in the game, the 39-year-old voiced his concerns of Liverpool's defensive options, saying: "Premier League defenders where are you!" He shakes off Doucoure, good one-two with Moreno and a lovely over Can and it's reminiscent of Thierry Henry in the way he opens his body and bends his shot with his right foot to give the keeper no chance.
