Now, Ellison is retracting that claim.

Gold prices continued to rally Friday as the USA and North Korea excahnged mutual threats.

US President Donald Trump issued a new threat to North Korea on Friday, saying American weapons were "locked and loaded" as Pyongyang accused him of driving the Korean Peninsula to the brink of nuclear war. "You have this guy making bellicose threats against somebody else who has very little to lose over there".

"That was one of those I wish I'd not said", Ellison told the Post.

Trump doubled down Thursday, saying his previous bold statements might not have been "strong enough" for Kim Jong Un, whose regime announced a plan to fire four missiles near the US island territory of Guam in response to the White House's bold rhetoric.

Tillerson says NKorea must halt launches to talk

"The time for cranking up the antiwar machine is right now", Ellison said, according to the Washington Post.

"It's tailor-made for somebody to misuse", Ellison said. I'd say he's being incredibly irresponsible and he's putting us in a situation where you could have an accidental launch.

And just days before that, the president promised to unleash "fire and fury" on the tin-pot country, should dictator Kim Jong Un continue to make unwelcome advances against the United States.

"What we need is someone bringing calm to the situation, not spiking it", he emphasized.

Speaking in Bristol, Mr Corbyn said: "We can not play fast and loose with nuclear weapons and nuclear threats because do you know what - a nuclear explosion doesn't stop at national borders, it doesn't stop at the vicinity where the bomb drops". Michael Ahrens, the RNC's rapid-response director, sent the video of Ellison's comment to reporters, calling it "insane" and and challenging Democrats to respond.
