Corbyn: UK should stay out of any military action against North Korea

[David Ignatius] US can't go it alone against NK

Analysts say Hwasong-12 and 14 missiles, the latest to be developed by North Korea and the subject of recent tests, have been moved into position but it is not clear if they are ready to be fired.

Pentagon officials told Fox News on Friday that the U.S. military stands ready to "fight tonight" on the Korean Peninsula, as President Trump said the U.S.is "locked and loaded" and retweeted images from U.S. Pacific Command showing B-1B Lancer bombers on Guam.

"Well over a hundred thousand people died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki from what were small atomic bombs", Mr Corbyn said.

North Korea and its totalitarian leader, Kim Jong Un, have again been thrust into the center of global media attention this week after its government threatened to fire missiles at a United States pacific territory.

"Trump and Kim must immediately wind down the war of rhetoric, as the German chancellor Angela Merkel has demanded", he continued.

North: Media to Partly Blame for Escalating US-N. Korea Tension
His visit came the day after President Trump said North Korea would be met with "fire and fury" in the event of a nuclear attack. Tensions have escalated rapidly in recent weeks after North Korea tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles in July.

Mr Corbyn said, while the United Kingdom should play a role with other nuclear-armed countries to mediate the impasse between the countries, the Government not to offer "blind loyalty" to the Trump administration.

"We can not play fast and loose with nuclear weapons and nuclear threats".

"Our government must not drag our country into any military action over the Korea crisis, including joint exercises", he wrote in the Sunday Mirror.

On Thursday, Kim Jong-un threatened to strike waters around the U.S. base in Guam.

The call came after Mr. Trump unleashed a slew of fresh threats against North Korea on Friday, declaring the US military "locked and loaded" and warning North Korean leader Kim Jong-un that he "will regret it fast" if he takes any action against USA territories or allies.
