Buffalo Bills: Realistic Expectations for 2017

Eagles Incumbent Corners Welcome Ronald Darby Increased Competition

Going from playing with a competent offense with the Buffalo Bills to a rebuilding Los Angeles Rams team has to put a major dent in Watkins' season-long potential, correct? Gaines, while also loading up with a treasure chest of draft picks for next spring.

The second trade, which was announced by the Bills immediately after the first, sent cornerback Ronald Darby to Philadelphia for receiver Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick.

Watkins, a Clemson alum, joins the receiver-starved Rams who are looking for capable targets for last year's top-overall pick Jared Goff, who struggled while the offense finished dead last in both yardage and scoring.

Watkins has been dealing with a foot injury that limited the wide receiver to just eight games past year after having an operation to fix a broken foot. There's a bit of irony to all of this: After the Bills sacrificed picks to draft Watkins in 2014, the team is now adding picks by trading him in 2017. But after the bombshell he dropped at One Bills Drive, one would have to believe that no one on the Buffalo roster is untouchable.

In sum, the Bills swapped cornerbacks (Gaines for Darby) and receivers (Matthews for Watson) while netting additional second- and third-round picks in 2018.

Los Angeles clearly values Watkins more than the Bills have under their new regime led by coach Sean McDermott. The Buffalo Bills haven't made a postseason appearance since the team was stunned by the Tennessee Titans via the "Music City Miracle" in the 1999 AFC Wild Card Playoffs. He intercepted two passes as a rookie with the Bills and started 14 games in 2016, logging 69 tackles and deflecting 12 passes.

"I think his vertical presence and even just his threat and his name will allow defenses to play us different because you always have to have someone over the top of him", Woods said. He won't be able to open up the field, but now he has two dependable veteran targets and a good rookie coming to work with.

Rams general manager Les Snead wants to lock Watkins up to a long-term deal, but the two sides have not started any negotiations, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Rams' to-do list was daunting on New Year's Day.

In fantasy football, we know that touchdowns mean everything because they account for such a large percentage of the scoring. "Those guys make the decisions for our team". This helps us to illustrate the difference between a five-yard completion on 3rd and 4 and that same completion on 3rd and 6.
