Bruno Mars said Saturday he is donating $1 million from his MI concert to aid those impacted by the Flint water crisis.

The Grammy-winning star told the audience at his show in Auburn Hills, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from Detroit, that he and tour promoter Live Nation are redirecting funds from the show to the charity The Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

Forget the gold jewelry and strawberry champagne, Bruno Mars has something more important he's spending his money on this month.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting the singer stated he will give $1 million to victims of the water crisis.

Over the past couple of years, controversy has surrounded Flint after the city's water supply was contaminated with lead. That decision pumped high concentrations of lead through aging pipes into the water of the homes of mostly poor, black residents and caused an outbreak of Legionnaires disease that has claimed the lives of at least 12 people.

E! News said the 31-year-old music superstar stopped his show at the Palace in Auburn Hills to say some of the proceeds from the event would go to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

Saturday's concert was part of Mars' continuing 24K Magic World Tour, which wraps up its North American leg with four November shows at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., followed by swings through Latin America Oceana, Asia and Mexico into June of 2018.

"He understands the issues faced by Flint citizens, and we are touched by his concern and generosity".
