3 militants, 2 soldiers killed in Shopian encounter

Big blow to Hizbul: Burhan's successor Yasin killed

Yasin Yatoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi, Hizbul Mujahideen's operational commander for Kashmir and one of the longest serving militants in the Valley, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a senior police official, three terrorists were shot down by security personnel and a counter-operation is now underway.

Two militants are still holed up in the area, The Times of India reported. A dozen stone-pelting protesters were injured in clashes with security forces in the area.

Meanwhile villagers alleged highhandedness of forces and said that forces ransacked their houses.

The soldier has been identified as Nb Sub Jagram Singh Tomar, who got grievously injured during the exchange of fire and succumbed to his injuries.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the three youth were martyred by the troops during a siege and search operation in Awneera area of the district.
