Arsenal 'growing less optimistic' of landing Monaco attacker

But BBC Sport's David Ornstein has cast doubt over a move after tweeting that the departures of other players are making it hard for a deal to be done.

He's announced that "Arsenal (are) growing less optimistic of signing Lemar". "Intention remains to keep Sanchez #AFC".

The Daily Star is reporting that Lemar wants to secure a "dream" transfer to The Emirates this summer and play under manager Arsene Wenger next season.

And according to Emanuele Giulianelli, writing for Tribal Football, the Gunners have agreed a deal with Monaco for the 21-year-old.

Bernardo Silva was the first to leave, being snapped up by Manchester City, while Tiemoue Bakayoko was confirmed by Chelsea yesterday.

The Gunners have made a series of offers for the Frenchman over the last few weeks - all of which have been rejected by Monaco - but Arsenal had previously been confident that they could push a deal over the line at some point. It's close to the price asked at the beginning of the negotiations by Monaco - £53 million as we've already reported.

Multiple agents who have spoken to GFFN this week both on and off the record are unanimous in stating that it is impossible to understand what Monaco's strategy in terms of selling players will turn out to be during this window, despite the fact that we are already almost 7 weeks into it.

The youngster has another three years left on his current deal, but the numbers said to be agreed with the Gunners dwarf his current - relatively modest - pay packet in France.
