University of SC student reported missing in Peru

The body of a missing man has been found in South America, according to a USC spokesperson.

A University of SC student who went missing in Peru on a trip coordinated by Augusta University has been found dead.

USC spokesman Wes Hickman told news outlets on Saturday that Seth Thomas, a second-year medical student, is believed to have died because of a hiking accident. "USC officials are aware that Seth did not return from a hike on Friday and are working with the Thomas family, Augusta University, the Peruvian clinic, US and Peruvian government officials and local authorities".

Seth Thomas, 24, was working in Peru through a clinical program at Augusta University.

The University of SC is offering counseling to those affected by Thomas' death.
