Teen who fell from Six Flags ride remains hospitalized

26 June 2017, 06:52 | Gladys Abbott

The incident happened on a gondola Sky Ride at the Six Flags Great Amusement Park in NY.

Howard said he stood under the girl and promised he'd catch her.

On Sunday, park officials said the ride had been cleared for operation, but would remain closed.

She was riding the Sky Ride gondola with a child relative, according to AP, when the incident occurred. Thankfully, a group of park guests and security people were below to catch her.

The ride was inspected by officials and found to be in proper working order, a park official said.

"And I grabbed her and in the video I see my daughter grabbing her from here", Howard said.

Facebook user Loren Lent recorded the video posted here, which captures the girl escaping from the ride and falling through a tree to the crowd below.

The video shows the girl somehow slipped through the safety bar, which briefly held her aloft while she dangled in the air.

GOP senators now oppose health bill
Dave Reichert, R-Auburn, and Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Vancouver, also voted against the House version of the health-care bill. In both bills, however, the Medicaid phase-out is delayed - which is why Wisconsin health-care organizations are concerned.

The teenager eventually let go, striking a branch as she fell 7.5m into waiting arms below.

Six Flags closed the ride afterwards to investigate how she became stuck. A 47-year-old man from Schenectady, New York, was also taken to Glens Falls Hospital after sustaining back injury.

He said of the rescue effort: "It was just good to see people band together to do what they could do".

The Sky Ride was described by police as a "very slow moving, gondola" which spans the entire length of the park.

When asked whether the girl's evacuation from the ride had followed protocol, Wood did not specify but said that all rides have a "standard evacuation plan".

"Because if she was going to fall you know I wanted to be there to at least do whatever I could to try to save this girl", Winchell said. They didn't stay long, but said she was in some pain, but good spirits overall.

The girl was treated on the spot and then rushed to a nearby hospital in a helicopter after the incident. The park said in a statement that the safety of guests is a top priority.

They're hopeful the public will leave the young girl and her family alone to heal, they said.
