Escaped Georgia Inmates Captured In Middle Tennessee
Officials say the Tennessee man, who has not been identified by authorities, caught the escapees attempting to steal his vehicle Wednesday night. Miller said the homeowner held the two at gunpoint with a neighbor until the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department could get there to arrest them.
The chase began after DuBose and Rowe - twice cellmates at Baldwin State Prison - overpowered two correctional officers during a routine transport.
A myriad of federal, state and local law enforcement agents had been scouring the state and the country for Rowe and Dubose, both serving sentences that don't allow for parole.
They then stole the couple's truck and took police on a vehicle chase, crashed the truck and continued the pursuit on foot before being caught, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.
Deal said the public is safe from these two men because of the tireless efforts of law enforcement. "We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service". Somewhere near there, the escapees stole another vehicle, which they abandoned about 15 miles north in Bedford County, Tenn., near Shelbyville, he said.
The pair shot to death two prison officers during the escape in the early hours of Tuesday, as they were being moved between two penal facilities.
Initial photos released by the Georgia Department of Corrections show Rowe, 43, as a heavyset man with a beard and mustache.
After some 60 hours on the run, a pair of escapedGeorgiainmates wanted for gunning down two correctional officers were caught Thursday night in Tennessee.
They will also face charges in Tennessee for auto theft in Moore County, Tenn., and home invasion/armed robbery.
Around 2:30 p.m. Dubose and Rowe broke into a home in Shelbyville and tied up a man and woman. They attempted to steal a cell phone and the couple's Jeep, but police on a routine welfare check noticed the convicts on the run. The chase continued for 10 miles, ending with the inmates crashing the stolen Jeep. After being held at gunpoint by the owner of the vehicle, they were finally taken back into custody.
A homeowner in Tennessee is being hailed as a hero for holding two escapedGeorgia prison inmates at gunpoint until police arrived on the scene.
The inmatesescaped from their prison bus around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 16 between Eatonton and Sparta, about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta.
Corrections officers Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue were killed by the inmates.
The other prisoners on the bus Tuesday were taken to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and put on another corrections department bus. TBI's Gwyn wasn't immediately sure who would collect the reward. He says "We do not offer rewards for someone to be brought in dead or alive".
Donnie Russell Rowe and Ricky Dubose are locked in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center in Murfreesboro, awaiting extradition to Georgia. Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue were fatally shot.
A photo of the two suspects after their capture was quickly shared by law enforcement and news agencies across the country.
'He was a great man who has left a family behind, ' the page read. Burial will follow in Heritage Memorial Park.
