Trump slams Comey, once more dismisses Russia probe as "witch hunt"

19 May 2017, 10:56 | Terri Saunders

News that the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel, former FBI Director Robert Mueller, to lead the Russian Federation probe rocked Washington.

"I respect the move, but the entire thing has been a witch hunt", the United States leader said when asked about the nomination of a high-powered special counsel to investigate suspected Russian meddling.

President Trump delivered a full-throated denial on Thursday that he or members of his presidential campaign engaged in any collusion with the Russian government in order to influence the 2016 election. "Whatever the motivation for the investigation, Mueller is sufficiently well-respected that it likely won't be 'just for show.'" Daria explained that Rosenstein made a really good choice in appointing Mueller to special counsel. His booting made a ton of politicians super angry and many demanded a special prosecutor.

-The Senate intelligence committee invited Comey to appear in both open and closed sessions. The FBI is conducting their own review. I think he represented Ukraine or people having to do with Ukraine, or people that - whoever.

Trump has cast himself throughout the Russian Federation investigation as an aggrieved president who is being mistreated by the media.

During his late afternoon press conference in the White House he took a slightly more measured approach. That could well include the firing last week of FBI Director James Comey.

Jones agreed with Banks's take on the investigation into Russian meddling in the US election and possible ties to the Trump administration. "When I made that decision I actually thought it would be a bipartisan decision because you look at all of the people on the Democratic side, not only the Republican side, that were saying such awful thing about Director Comey".

In a written statement, Trump insisted anew that there were no nefarious ties between his campaign and Russian Federation. "What do you need to further investigate if there is nothing that has come out?"

"Typically, you go through a congressional oversight review. We're doing that", she said. "Let's let this play out the way it should".

The question on everyone's mind has been: could this get the ball rolling toward President Trump's impeachment? "To the best of my knowledge no person that I deal with does", he said. "There are two committees that are now doing that. We're extremely confident that, whatever review, they're all going to come to the same conclusion - that we had no involvement in this".

"I think it divides the country; I think we have a very divided country because of that and many other things", the President added. "It's special", Trump said.

"After the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice whitewashed Hillary Clinton's email crimes, they certainly can not be trusted to quickly or impartially investigate Hillary Clinton's new crimes", Trump said.

The Justice Department's decision to put Mueller in charge of the investigation comes as the White House was already reeling from a series of self-inflicted controversies.

During the second presidential debate on October 9, Trump said to Clinton, "I hate to say it but, if I win, I am going to instruct my Attorney General to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation". There has never been anything like it. "And we're going to have a special prosecutor".
