The White House was rocked by a further revelation Friday, when reports emerged that Trump said his sacking of FBI director James Comey has relieved "great pressure" on him caused by the Russian Federation investigation. But Trump said later that he had already made a decision to let Comey go. As the Post highlighted, only three current senior administration officials have had publicly known contacts with the Russians: Attorney general _Jeff Sessions, _Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and senior adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Did he urge Comey at a February meeting to drop his probe of the Russian Federation connections of Trump's national security adviser, Michael Flynn?
According to Schmidt's report, Trump short-circuited what Comey considered to be the proper channels and etiquette by requesting information as to when it would be officially acknowledged that the president himself was not personally under investigation.
Trump's senior aides privately recognize that they may have to be restrained in making significant staff changes after his coming foreign trip, as they had hoped the president would do.
"I can't confirm or deny the existence or non-existence of investigations or targets of investigations", Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told the Post.
Graham made the remarks after Robert Mueller, who was named special counsel in the Russian Federation probe, met with several senators.
Trump also set a goal to use the visits as a way to signal that the U.S.is re-establishing its global leadership role while emphasizing its allies' responsibility to share more of the burden of their own defense and to increase investment and partnerships that can create U.S.jobs, the official said.
This was only one of many interactions with Trump that reports now indicate made Comey uncomfortable.
"With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign and the Obama Administration, there was never a special councel [sic] appointed", he tweeted on Thursday.
Trump spokesman Sean Spicer did not dispute the account, the paper reported.
Trump tells Russians about firing Comey

Friday's report quotes Trump calling ousted FBI Director James Comey "crazy" and "a real nut job".
The news that Rosenstein knew about Comey's firing before he wrote the memo could make the deputy attorney general a witness in Mueller's investigation, the Times noted. A memo by fired FBI Director Comey alleged Trump even asked that the probe into Flynn be shut down.
Rosenstein is the lead Justice Department official on the investigation into Trump's connections with Russian Federation.
People familiar with the investigation said the intensifying effort does not mean criminal charges are near, or that any such charges will result.
"The investigation would have always continued, and obviously, the termination of Comey would not have ended it".
"Then he had the very poor performance on Wednesday".
Comey's decision to speak to the Senate Intelligence Committee while declining to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee drew complaints from Judiciary's chairman, Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley, and California Democrat Dianne Feinstein, the committee's ranking member. He said an announcement could come "soon" and that former Sen.
In his earlier Twitter posts, Trump criticised the naming of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Mueller as a special counsel by deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, an official he himself appointed.
The problem with special counsels, as we've learned time and again, is that they are by definition all but politically unaccountable.
The Russian government is accused by U.S. intelligence of trying to tilt the 2016 election in Trump's favor.

Trump says special counsel 'divides the country'
The Twitter messages were a departure from the more measured tone of a formal statement issued Wednesday night by the White House. Others are already considering leaving, and allies due to join the administration say they are holding off.
